Novak Djokovic is the top seed and the defending champion in Rome. The Serbian is chasing his sixth title at the Italian Open this year, and is just two wins away from doing so. He received a bye in the first round of the Rome Masters. In the second round, he defeated Taylor Fritz in straight sets. Djokovic secured another straight sets victory over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the third round, dropping just three games.

The top seed had to battle past Stefanos Tsitsipas in a three set thriller in the quarterfinals. Novak Djokovic lost the first set, and was a break down in the second set, when the play was halted on Friday. However, he produced a remarkable comeback, and won the next two sets to progress into the semifinals.

Lorenzo Sonego is enjoying a dream run in Rome. The Italian defeated Gael Monfils in three sets in the first round. In the second round, he defeated his Italian compatriot, Gianluca Mager in straight sets. He outclassed the fourth seeded Austrian, Dominic Thiem in a three set battle in the third round, that went all the way down to the wire. He survived another three set battle against Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals, as he came back from a set down to defeat the Russian on Saturday.

Moreover, he has been serving well in the last two matches, registering 13 aces. However, Novak Djokovic is expected to defeat the Italian and end his run at the tournament.
