‘Criticizing Emma Raducanu is harsh and unfortunate’: Judy Murray

British tennis star Emma Raducanu made a name for herself at the Wimbledon 2021. The young sensation received a wild card entry at the grass-court Grand Slam. Instantly impressing everyone with her performance, the 18-year-old won her first three rounds.

Emma went past all her opponents in the first three rounds in straight sets. Many touted her as the unsung hero of Wimbledon 2021 who has the potential to take on the best in the business. However, in her fourth-round clash, Emma had to withdraw mid-game which didn’t go down well with several fans and experts.

Emma was struggling with her breathing against Australian Ajla Tomljanovic. After much deliberation, she was advised by her medical team not to continue with the game. This move was not liked by many as they started trolling and criticizing Emma.

Addressing such people, tennis expert Judy Murray claimed that it was not right to call her move as inability to handle pressure. Judy claimed, “Some of the comments thrown around – let’s face it, by a number of very much older men – were unhelpful and more than a little cruel.”

Judy claimed that it is evident that a lot of people will have an opinion about how Emma must have reacted, but the truth is that it was a great achievement for her to make her way up to the fourth round. Moreover, the experience will allow her to learn more about the game which will eventually help her in future endeavors.

The whole situation took a huge toll on Emma. Later, she claimed, “I was playing the best tennis of my life in front of an amazing crowd this week and I think the whole experience caught up with me. I started to breathe heavily and felt dizzy.”

“The medical team advised me not to continue and, although it felt like the hardest thing in the world not to be able to finish my Wimbledon on the court, I was not well enough to carry on,” she further added.
