Angelique Kerber vs Katerina Siniakova : Preview
Angelique Kerber advances into her first final of the season as she defeats top-seeded Petra Kvitova 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(3) in a match that just went over the 2 hour mark. The win takes Kerber to her first final since the 2019 Eastbourne finals where she finished as the runner-up.
After a 2nd round exit at the Berlin Open 2021, Kerber has made a strong comeback ahead of the 2021 Wimbledon which will begin in 2-days’ time. Kerber won the first two rounds in straight-sets and won her quarter-final and semi-final clash in 3-sets to advance into the finals.
Katerina Siniakova surprises everyone as she also reaches her first final of the season. She defeated Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-2, 6-4 in just under the 1.5 hour mark as she registered her 3rd straight-set win of her 4 matches this week. This will be her first final on the WTA-250 and above level since January 2018 when she finished as the runner-up at the 2018 Shenzhen Open.
Siniakova who is playing her first Grass tournament of the season was not being seen as a title contender. However, with some great wins she finds herself 2-sets away from clinching 3rd career title.
Angelique Kerber vs Katerina Siniakova : Head to Head
This will be their 6th career meeting and 2nd on Grass. Their only Grass meeting before this came in the quarter-finals of the 2015 Birmingham Classic. Of their 5 meetings, Kerber has won 4 and leads the head-to-head tie 4-1.
Angelique Kerber vs Katerina Siniakova : Prediction
Katerina will take the court with a career Grass record of 20-17 and an overall season record of 13-10. She has not had much success over the past few seasons with her 4 wins this season already her 2nd best record on Grass in her career. It will be a tough challenge for her against Kerber.
Kerber will be the favourite for this clash given her excellent record on Grass. She is 77-29 on the surface across her career and is currently on 13-10 for the season. With some good wins in the past 2 rounds, she will be confident of her chances and will aim for the title before she goes to Wimbledon chasing her 2nd Wimbledon title after winning the first in 2018.
Prediction: Angelique Kerber to win in three-sets.
