Anett Kontaveit now has fate in her own hands as she qualifies for the finals of the tournament that now makes her qualification for the 2021 WTA Finals just 1 win away. Kontaveit was up against Rebecca Peterson in the semi-finals and went on to win the match 6-3, 6-2 which takes her to the finals without having dropped a single set this week in Romania.

Simona Halep continues to shine in her home as she thrashes Marta Kostyuk 6-0, 6-1 to enter into the finals. Similar to Kontaveit, she is yet to drop a set this week at the tournament and will need another inspired performance to stop the in-form Estonian. This will be Simona’s first final of the season while the 5th for Kontaveit.

Halep will come into the clash with a career indoor Hardcourt record of 53-34 and is 6-1 on the surface this season while having a season record of 22-9 across all surfaces. Kontaveit will take the court with a career indoor Hardcourt 84-31 and is 14-0 on indoor Hardcourts for the season and has a 44-15 record across all surfaces this season.

Looking at these numbers, their past performances and recent results, there is very little to separate between the two players. While Halep will look to win the title in her backyard, Kontaveit’s motivation will be the spot in the WTA Finals and to win her first match against the former World No. 1. Nevertheless, expect a thriller in the finals.

Prediction: Anett Kontaveit to win in 3-sets.
