After opting to stay off the circuit for the majority of the summer, the Australian Nick Kyrgios will play only his third tournament of the season at Wimbledon. Despite this, Kyrgios has played in some of the year’s finest matches, most notably defeating Ugo Humbert in five sets before falling to Dominic Thiem in the same format at the Australian Open. Since then, Humbert has withdrawn from the round of 16 in Mallorca in order to protect his body ahead of a very appealing potential at Wimbledon. Humbert, 22, made his Wimbledon debut in 2019, defeating teenage prodigy Felix Auger-Aliassime in the third round. In 2019, the Frenchman was eliminated in the round of 16 by Novak Djokovic, his greatest Grand Slam performance to date.

The match between world number 61 Nick Kyrgios and world number 25 Ugo Humbert appears to be the must-see match of the first round at Wimbledon. Humbert’s following poor form may have been exacerbated by Kyrgios’ exciting five-set battle on his favourite court at the Australian Open, but the Frenchman is back to his best now at grass court.

Our prediction is that this fight will be a five-setter, although given the Frenchman’s form on grass, he may have an added benefit and win the five-setter.
