The World No. 1 Novak Djokovic proves his mettle as he defeats the ‘King of Clay’ Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals of the French Open 2021 registering his 30th win over the Spaniard in their 58th career meeting.

Nadal made a good start to the first set going 5-0 up but Djokovic won 3 consecutive games before Nadal won the 9th game of the first set to take the set 6-3. Djokovic made a strong comeback breaking the Spaniard in the first game of the 2nd set and continued his authority to win the match 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-2.

Apart from handing Nadal his 3rd ever defeat at the French Open in 17 years, Djokovic broke several other records in the process and can claim a further more with a 2nd title at the Philippe-Chatrier on Sunday, 13th June.

  • Novak Djokovic becomes the first man to defeat Rafael Nadal twice at the French Open.
  • Djokovic is the only person to defeat Nadal after losing the first set against the Spaniard at the Roland Garros.

  • Djokovic became the first person to defeat Nadal in the semi-finals of the French Open, breaking the Spaniard’s 100% win record in the semi-finals at Roland Garros.

Novak Djokovic will now face Stefanos Tsitsipas in the finals of the French Open 2021 with the match scheduled on the 13th of June, 2021.
