The 2021 BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells is underway after missing out last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The event, which is annually held before the European clay court swing was postponed this year due to the pandemic and will welcome fans once again this time.
While the Big 3- Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will miss the marquee event due to various reasons, many top ATP stars will be seen competing for the silverware. Defending champion Dominic Thiem will also be missing from the tournament this year due to a wrist injury.
The absence of the Big 3 means that all of the top 10 seeds of the tournament are 25 or less than 25 years old. US Open champion Daniil Medvedev enters the tournament as the hot favorite and top seed in the absence of Novak Djokovic.
Medvedev and Tsitsipas will be the top seeds at 2021 Indian Wells
While Medvedev will headline the top half of the draw, Stefanos Tsitsipas is seeded second and will headline the bottom half of the draw. Tsitsipas won his first masters title earlier this year at Monte Carlo and will enter the tournament as a strong contender for the title.
Alexander Zverev is seeded third in the tournament while Andrey Rublev is seeded fourth. Zverev has already won 2 masters title this year-Madrid and Cincinnati, and will look to complete a hat-trick at Indian Wells.
Wimbledon runner-up Matteo Berrettini is seeded fifth in the tournament while Casper Ruud is seeded sixth. Ruud has the most number of titles this season-5, and won the San Diego Open last week.
