Recently, Manolo Santana, one of the greatest tennis players passed away yesterday, i.e. 11th December 2021 in Madrid, Spain. Spanish media reports that the Spaniard had been suffering from Parkinson’s disease and was spending his last days in his home in Marbella, on the Mediterranean Coast.

Heartbreaking to just get the news about Manolo Santana. Sending my deepest condolences and prayers to his family and all who loved him, which is so many. Thank you dear Manolo for paving the way, you will be missed and celebrated always! Rest In Peace legend!” tweeted Novak Djokovic on the death of the legend.

Many players other than Novak also paid their homage to Manolo.

The president of Spain addressed Manolo as the ‘legend’ and paid tribute to the player who brought many awards and titles to the country.

Manolo Santana was the first Spanish player to win Wimbledon. He won four major singles titles. He took the French Open in 1961 and 1964, the U.S. Open at Forest Hills in 1965 and Wimbledon in 1966.

Santana also won the gold medal in singles and the silver in doubles in Mexico City in 1968. He captained Spain in the Davis Cup between 1980 and 1985, and again between 1995 and 1999.
