After reaching the finals of 2021 Wimbledon Championships, World No. 8 Matteo Berrettini only returned to the tour at the event in Cincinnati, ahead of the US Open. Unfortunately, he lost in the third round to Canada’s Felix Auger Aliassime in three sets.
However, the Italian has beaten Jeremy Chardy and Corentin Moutet in the first two rounds and is only expected to get better with more matches under his belt. With a 11-4 win/loss record on the hard courts this season, Berrettini is going to be a force to reckon with going forward.
The 25-year-old is a former semifinalist at this event. Berrettini lost to eventual champion Rafael Nadal at the 2019 US Open. Although he is not one of the top contenders to win the title this year, he is certainly in the mix as a dark horse.

Matteo Berrettini vs Ilya Ivashka: LIVE stream and Broadcasters details
On the other hand, Ilya Ivashka comes into this match after beating Canada’s Vasek Pospisil in straight sets in the previous round. The 27-year-old also beat American Tennys Sandgren in straight sets in the opening round. The Belarusian has come into this year’s US Open with momentum behind his back, after winning the title in Winston-Salem. Ivashka beat the likes of Jan-Lennard Struff, Marin Cilic and Pablo Carreno Busta in the process.
Although Ivaskha lost in the third out of the Tokyo Olympics and Washington, he has spent adequate time on the hard courts to push the Italian when they take the court for their third round clash. Interestingly, Berrettini and Ivaskha recently locked horns in the round of 16 at Wimbledon, where the World No.8 prevailed in three sets.
