Andy Murray vs Denis Shapovalov : Preview
Andy Murray rolled back the years when he played an epic 5-setter clash at the Centre Court against Oscar Otte in the 2nd round. Despite having won the 1st set, Murray found himself 2 sets down at the beginning of the 4th set and made a strong comeback to win the match 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in 3 hours and 51 minutes.
Murray continues to prove his wildcard with another dazzling performance on the Centre Court in front of his home crowd as he battled past Otte who looked to snatch the win away from the former World No. 1. But a resilient performance in the last 2-sets saw Murray enter the third round much to the delight of the crowd at the All-England Club.
Denis Shapovalov reaches the third round of the Wimbledon for the very first time as he gets a walkover from Pablo Andujar who was his opponent in the 2nd round. Pablo had to pull out from the tournament due to a rib injury he discovered after his 1st round match that made it difficult for the Spaniard to take the court against Denis, handing him a walkover.
Denis had won his first round clash against Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany whom he defeated 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 ,5-7, 6-4 in a clash that went on for 3.5 hours as the duo battled hard against each other, but it was Shapovalov who eventually came out victorious.
Andy Murray vs Denis Shapovalov : Head to Head
This will be their first ever meeting hence, the head-to-head stands at 0-0.
Andy Murray vs Denis Shapovalov : Prediction
Denis will take the court with a career record of 13-13 on Grass and an overall season record of 19-13. Murray on the other hand will come in with a career Grass record of 117-30 and an overall season record of 8-4. While Shapovalov comes in well rested into the tie, Murray can be a little fatigued from his marathon clash in the 2nd round.
Looking at these details, it will be a tough encounter to predict as both the players have the potential to take the match deep and have the mettle to last 5-sets and win it. However, Denis will be the favourite but it will not be a cakewalk for the Canadian as Murray will surely give his everything to advance ahead.
Prediction: Denis Shapovaov to win in 5-sets.
