Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the Russian number 1 singles player was not performing at her best these past few tournaments. She lost both the Italian Open and the Mutua Madrid Open in the opening rounds. She had been the finalist in the Roland-Garros 2021 and she was falling in the first rounds of her matches in these few tournaments.
Though she won the doubles title in Rome with Veronica Kudermetova, there has been something missing from the player who had been the runner-up in Paris last year.
It was quite concerning that the world number 11 had been playing like that, and another astonishing fact was that she had participated in so few tournaments this year. All of the reasons for the concern have been addressed by Pavlyuchenkova in the tweet. She gave a piece of very saddening news through her Twitter handle.

“I’m very sad to say, that i’m forced to withdraw from Roland Garros @rolandgarros and the rest of the tournaments this year! I have been playing this in my head for the last week and it has been a really tough decision to make, as Roland Garros was always very special to me, especially after a dream run last year ! But due to the pain for a long time, now the injury is limiting me physically and mentally to compete and practice fully. After rehabbing for months this year and only played at 3 events, the last two tournaments has showed me, that the pain was still there and i wasn’t ready, so i have decided to take more time and come back stronger next year! “
She will be withdrawing from the French Open 2022 and subsequent tournaments this year. It was very unfortunate news that will withdraw from all the tournaments this year, but the break is necessary for her overall well-being. She would be looking to bounce back after rehabilitation and the break, which is sorely needed to continue playing for many more years.
