Diego Schwartzman vs Pablo Carreno Busta: Preview

Diego Schwartzman

it has been yet another terrific run for the Argentine, Diego Schwartzman who has faced some tricky opponents and still have gone past them with flying colours. The 29-year-old loves to play on clay and he is proving it by keeping up his consistency. Schwartzman started his campaign with a win against Mackenzie McDonald and then defeated the talented Lorenzo Musetti in the second round. The toughest clash of all was against Felix Auger-Aliassime

Schwartzman is a tooth and nail fighter and therefore he had a great game against the young Canadian. Apart from the win, it allowed Schwartzman time on court something he will need in the coming matches. The Argentine will now face the local star Pablo Carreno Busta in the semifinals and it promises to be a nail bitter with two experienced players who relish their matches on the red dirt.

Surprisingly Carreno Busta has had a tougher road to the semifinals than his opponent, Diego Schwartzman. The 30-year-old Spaniard defeated compatriot Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the first round followed by a hard-fought win against Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego. Lastly, Carreno Busta was on top of his game when he defeated Miami Open finalist Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals. It was yet another three set classic and the Gijon native held his nerves better to wrap up the game.

Pablo Carreno Busta is playing with extra motivation from the fans. They will once again cheer for him from the stands and will back him all the way. But it promises to be a thriller as experienced players will go head to head on their favourite surface.

Diego Schwartzman vs Pablo Carreno Busta: Head to head

Pablo Carreno Busta

Diego Schwartzman and Pablo Carreno Busta have faced each other three times ahead of their Barcelona Open semifinals matchup. In terms of head to head statistics, Carreno Busta has a 2-1 lead over the Argentine. Coincidentally the duo faced each other last time at the Barcelona Open last year in the quarterfinals where Carreno Busta won the duel in three sets.

Diego Schwartzman vs Pablo Carreno Busta: Prediction

Diego Schwartzman

Diego Schwartzman has been in form for a few weeks now. He reached the quarterfinals at the Monte Carlo Masters and was defeated by the eventual champion Stefanos Tsitsipas. His performances at the Argentina Open and also in Rio were praiseworthy but his form dropped a bit during the American hard-court stretch of Indian Wells and Miami. But now on clay Schwartzman definitely has a slight upper hand in terms of form going into the semifinals.

Similar things can be said about the local star Pablo Carreno Busta, who will have the hoe fans pushing him on and that could be the motivation that he needs to beat the Argentine on the day. However, he had a very average outing in Monte Carlo as he bowed out from the round of 16. He has had a rough year in terms of results this year especially the ones on the hard court have been pretty underwhelming. So the Spaniard will be looking to pick that up at home with a famous win over Schwartzman.

Prediction: Diego Schwartzman to win on three sets.
