Alejandro Davidovich Fokina

Nick Kyrgios has been enjoying a great season since the start of the year with his good performances at most of the ATP events of the year. He reached his maiden singles final at the Wimbledon Championship 2022 but lost to the eventual champion Novak Djokovic. He had achieved 15 wins out of the last 16 matches, the only loss being at the finals of Wimbledon. His winning streak got a full stop when he was defeated by Hubert Hurkacz in the quarter-finals of the Canadian Open.

The Aussie had a great run and was one among the favorites to win at the Canadian Open when he defeated the world number one Daniil Medvedev in three sets in the third round. He even clinched the title at the Citi Open defeating Yoshihito Nishioka in the finals in straight sets. Kyrgios has a 91 percent win percentage on his service games on the hardcourts. He will be looking to end the year on a high with his great performances so far and as the US Open is near, he will be eager to try his luck at reaching another final.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, on the other hand, hasn’t been very consistent with his performance with 18 wins and 19 defeats so far this season. He has not gone past the quarter-finals of any tournaments since being the finalist at the Monte Carlo Masters where he was defeated by Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets. His recent loss was to Diego Schwartzman in the first round at the Canadian Open where he lost in three sets even though Fokina had won the first set. he will be hoping to make a deep run at Cincinnati before playing at the US Open.

Nick Kyrgios

Kyrgios is currently playing the best level of tennis and his focus has been on making deep runs at the tournaments. His big serve gives him an undue advantage along with his great form makes him one of the favorites going into the tournament, He will be pretty confident regarding his game and tactics to defeat an opponent after winning the Citi Open and also defeating top seed players like Daniil Medvedev at the Canadian Open. Fokina’s game style is best suited for clay courts and he likes to engage in long rallies. He can easily switch from defense to offense with great groundstrokes. But his consistency has been a major concern.

Coming into the tournament, Kyrgios will likely have an upper hand owing to his recent success rates and this is the first time both players will meet each other.

Prediction: Kyrgios to win in two sets.
