In the latest episode of Match Points, the future of Coco Gauff was discussed. Ever since her US Open win just weeks ago, she has been the talking point of many tennis fans and followers. Many are saying that this win is only the start of her illustrious career, as she wins her first Grand Slam title.
Simon Chambers, a member of the panel in the show, said that her first Grand Slam title was something that was expected and coming. Talking about her game and problem-solving skills, he stated, “She’s done it and she did it through her own skill, her ability to problem solve on the court coming from behind so many times at that US Open.” Chambers further said, reminding everyone of her road-to-Rolland-Garros final last year, “This has been coming.”
Simon Chambers also talked about how significant and instrumental the decision to change her coach was. He added, “It’s been coming and she just needed that extra little tweak and somebody in her ear, [which happened with] the introduction of Brad Gilbert and Pere Riba as well. That sort of maneuvering of people in her team into the right places.”
Coco Gauff created history by becoming the youngest American to win the US Open since Serena Williams in 1999. Her maturity and game style have much been talked about. Talking about her future, Simon adds that he thinks Gauff will ‘definitely’ be World No. 1 at some point in the future. Meanwhile, he also touted the young American to win several Grand Slam titles as well.
