Holger Rune admits to being ‘STARSTRUCK’ after receiving praise from Roger Federer

Roger Federer has praised Danish tennis player Holger Rune in his latest video that was released at the 2023 Laver Cup and the youngster has been ‘starstruck’ by it. He wrote on Twitter (now renamed as X) that he could not believe that Roger was taking his name and it was a very special moment for him indeed. 

Firstly, the Swiss international praised 19-year-old Coco Gauff, who recently won the 2023 US Open. “The current tennis scene looks good to me. I mean if I quickly look over to what Coco Gauff did at the US Open, I thought that was highly special and unique and I know her for almost five years now. She’s incredible.”

He then moved on to the men’s side, where he praised Novak Djokovic for scripting history and gave special mentions to Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev for their special performances. He then moved on to mention the young class of players, which included Alcaraz, Holger Rune, and Jannik Sinner. “Young guys coming in as well – A generation that I didn’t play at all. Rune, Sinner, and Alcaraz – unfortunately I missed playing against them. But I think the future looks bright and the game can always evolve and will always evolve. The good thing is that I really enjoy watching and still following a lot of the results.”

Roger Federer has been highly involved in the 2023 Laver Cup and he also expressed his wish to potentially become the captain of Team Europe in the future. He shared a lot of his transparent opinions on the game and the players recently, due to the same reason, gave fans many things worth analyzing. Rune, on his part, wrote a tweet of him getting praised by Federer as, “I admit it. I am a starstrucked..I had to listen twice, (maybe 3-4 times), Roger mentioning my name,” alongside emoticons to express his genuine reaction.

Holger Rune is currently out injured 

Holger Rune was initially in Team Europe of the 2023 Laver Cup, but he had to take his name off owing to a back injury from which he has been suffering for a long time now. He suffered the injury in the Rome Open and it got worse in the French Open. Although the Danish continued playing, it hurt him eventually and specially while serving. He currently has to take an injection before his matches to ease the pain.

Recently, Rune’s mother opened up about how bad the condition is. Although it will not have a long-term impact on his career, it is important that it be dealt with immediately. For that, Rune needs to end his season as soon as possible so that he can start the new year fresh.
