“I doubt if her “opinion” has any weight similar to Serena” Fans come in support of Iga Swiatek as she withdraws from the 2022 BJK Cup Finals because of ITF and WTA

Poland’s chances at the 2022 BJK Cup Finals have been dealt a massive blow as star player Iga Swiatek has withdrawn her name. The World No. 1 was instrumental in her country’s qualification achieved earlier this season but will have to sit out of the Finals scheduled at end of the season.

Swiatek has blamed her withdrawal solely on ITF and WTA. The two tennis bodies that oversee all tournaments failed to come to a common ground after Swiatek and others had asked for a change in schedule as the BJK Cup Finals are set to commence the very next day after the 2022 WTA Finals will be played out.

Taking to her Instagram, Swiatek wrote, “I was thinking it through a lot and discussing it with my team all over again, but I will not be able to play at the Billie Jean King Cup in Glasgow. And it makes me sad. I’m very sorry, because I play for Poland whenever it’s possible and I always give it my best.”

Continuing further, Swiatek wrote, “Playing in Poland this year was an honor and I hoped to do this again at the end of the season. I’m disappointed that tennis governing bodies didn’t come to an agreement on something as basic as the calendar of tournaments, giving us only one day to travel through the globe and changing the time zone.

“This situation is not safe for our health and could cause injury. I’m going to talk to the WTA and ITF in order to change something. This situation is difficult not only for the players like me, but mainly for the tennis fans that support our sport.”

Swiatek, already qualified for the WTA Finals, will be in the USA for the 1-week event scheduled from October 31st to November 7. The BJK Cup Finals are scheduled from 8th November to 13th November in Glasgow, UK. As per this, the players will have to fly out on a 14-hour flight and jump to a time zone 6 hours ahead of USA.

With fans and Tour players looking at their leaders for voicing support, Swiatek has been bold in the duty. Having earlier complained about the weight of the ball during the US Open leg, her speaking against scheduling has also received praise from fans.
