The Greek’s other grass-court matches this year ended in defeat in the second round in Halle and the last eight in Stuttgart. However, after obtaining a first-round bye, Stefanos Tsitsipas began his campaign in Mallorca by defeating Ilya Ivashka 6-4, 6-4. After overcoming Marcos Giron 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3 in the quarterfinals, the World No. 6 went on to beat Benjamin Bonzi 6-4, 6-4 in the finals. Tsitsipas will compete in his first-ever grass-court ATP final in this match. In his previous three outings at the All England Club, he lost in the first round each time, making his 2018 Wimbledon run to the last 16 his best performance there.

Tsitsipas’ adversary delivered the tournament’s biggest upset by defeating the top player in the World. Prior to obtaining a walkover from Nick Kyrgios in the second round, Roberto Bautista Agut defeated Taro Daniel 6-4 7-6(4) in the opening round. The World No. 20 then defeated top-ranked Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals 6-3, 6-2, before defeating Swiss qualifier Antoine Bellier in the semifinals 7-6(5), 6-2. Thus, he earned himself a spot in the final showdown. Last week in Halle, the Spaniard also advanced to the last eight before losing to Daniil Medvedev.

Stefanos Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas will be the favourite to win considering his superior ranking, however, Bautista Agut will receive all the support from his home crowd, which will provide him with a slight edge over the Greek. This week, Tsitsipas has done a good job of serving. With 12 aces, including a few at crucial moments in the match, he saved himself several times in his quarterfinal match against Marcos Giron thanks to his serve. Furthermore, Tsitsipas has been working hard to excel on the surface, but his grasscourt game is still a work in progress.

The Spaniard, on the other hand, possesses a strong all-around game and excels with his forehand. He has long been considered one of the most physically fit players on the circuit and possesses the power to force errors from his rivals by forcing them to take an additional shot. The fact that his opponent is more vulnerable on grass than on hard courts or clay can work in the Spaniard’s favour, and he does have a chance of winning if he uses his game effectively.

Prediction: Stefanos Tsitsipas to win in three sets.
