Martina Navratilova, the queer tennis icon, recently took to Twitter to respond to a contentious and anti-feminist comment. The tweet which drew widespread notice and spurred intense debate, claimed that feminism was to blame for ‘60 million dead babies’ in the United States alone, as well as hundreds of millions around the world.

It also accused feminism of deliberately striving for almost a century to demolish the family unit. Such harsh words drew immediate condemnation from users throughout the platform.

Navratilova, a vocal supporter of gender equality and LGBTQ+ rights, was eager to comment and refute the claim. Navratilova brought out the folly of equating a fetus with a fully mature infant in her well-reasoned response. She was clear that ‘a fetus is not a baby’ and she lashed the use of misleading terminology, challenging the original tweeter’s hypocrisy in using such rhetoric.

The user, Matt Walsh, was pointing at the abortion rights of women and claimed in his earlier tweet that feminism has killed more people than the atomic bomb. Using the term ‘baby’ to refer to a fetus when discussing abortion can be inaccurate and emotionally upsetting. Proper medical terminology aids in the differentiation of developmental phases and helps in clearer talks regarding reproductive rights.

Martina Navratilova, a tennis legend, has long been a leader not only on the court but also in the fields of feminism and LGBTQ+ rights. Navratilova has used her platform to promote causes important to her heart after a phenomenal career that has seen her win multiple Grand Slam titles and solidify her status as one of the best players.

She has long been a leader not only on the court but also in the fields of feminism and LGBTQ+ rights. Navratilova has utilized her platform to promote issues near her heart. On and off the court, she continuously defied traditional gender stereotypes, demonstrating that women could be strong, competitive, and successful athletes.

Her unwavering pursuit of equality extended beyond tennis, as she became a global advocate for women’s rights. She made a daring and ground-breaking decision to come out openly as a lesbian in 1981. Her admission was a significant moment in sports history at a time when homosexuality was largely taboo in many parts of the world.

However, she is not completely in support of the transgender community. Navratilova has been canceled quite often for her opinion that trans women are not real women and they should not be allowed to play in the women’s category. She was removed from the position of ambassador by Athlete Ally, an LGBTQ+ organization for her ‘transphobic’ comments.
