Alexander Zverev is unlikely to play in the US Open

Alexander Zverev is a German professional tennis player. He has been ranked by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) as high as world No. 2, and has been a permanent fixture in the top 10 since July 2017. He has won 19 ATP Tour titles in singles and two in doubles, and reached his first major final at the 2020 US Open, finishing runner-up to Dominic Thiem. Zverev is the only active player outside of the Big Four with five Masters 1000 titles. The German is been called as one of the rising stars in world tennis, and with time on his side, some experts think he should be among the best in the world in the years to come. The German is born in a tennis family, with his father Alexander Zverev Sr. and brother Mischa both professional players.

Concerns over Alexander Zverev’s participation in the US Open

Alexander Zverev

He announced on social media on 8th June that he underwent an ankle injury when he played the semifinal of the French Open 2022 against Rafael Nadal and is currently recovering from it. He posted a video of him yesterday in which the German was seen walking with an injured foot which caused concerns among his fans over his participation in the US Open which is scheduled to begin in late August.

Though there was nothing mentioned in the video of him not taking part in the competition but with that foot, one can assume that it would be doubtful that he can play in a grand slam next month.

The German injured himself while springing after a shot late in the second set against Nadal, that’s when he fell to the ground, grabbing his right ankle and screaming in pain. He was taken off the court in a wheelchair, and then returned on crutches to say he was retiring from the match. With hardly 6-7 weeks to go for the 2022 US Open, it seems unlikely that the former runner-up will be back at the Flushing Meadows.
