Andrey Rublev has been in a peachy form lately as he defeated Novak Djokovic to clinch his Serbia Open title. He has been a regular into the quarterfinals of the tour he played, including his most recent one in Madrid. He has been quite vocal about the ban the Wimbledon imposed on the Russian and Belarusian players. Along with many players, including Rafael Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Novak Djokovic, he has said that it’s quite unfair for Wimbledon to punish the players without any fault of their own and just based on their country.

Wimbledon chose to go forward with its decision to impose the ban even after the warning issued by the ATP and the WTA. They feel that given the circumstances of the prevalent mayhem and propaganda in relation to the Russia-Ukraine war, it’s justified to ban the Russian and Belarusian players. The tennis world has been thoroughly split on this decision by Wimbledon. There have been some hopes among the fans and even on some players’ part that Wimbledon might depose this band on some conditions but Rublev feels this might not be the case.

Andrey Rublev is an amazing player and he a more practical person who doesn’t cling to any unnecessary hope. According to tennisuptodate, Rublev said:

“I don’t give myself hope. First of all, I think if they announce already one decision, I don’t think that they will step back. If they will step back, it will be really, really nice, and it would be a really nice move from them. Because I made already a statement why it makes no sense and I think if we are playing, we can be much more useful to help than if we’re going to be banned.”

Rublev also said :

“I think there are still calls between ATP and Wimbledon and some stuff like that, so we’ll see how the story ends. But now I understand that most likely… yeah I’m not giving too much hope”.

It’s understandable that Rublev is not clinging to some far-fetched hopes and he is taking the situation as it is. This ban might affect players like him, who will not be able to show their prowess on the biggest stage, but Rublev will certainly look to make the most of the opportunities he gets.
