Nick Kyrgios has been very vocal about supporting Novak Djokovic in the past few weeks. The world No.1 has been through one of the toughest times in his career. He has been shuffling between the Tennis court and Federal court for the past week.
There has been a lot of criticism for Djokovic, a lot of blind support for Djokovic, and some people who just want to see the controversy come to an end. Some of Djokovic’s opponents have also divided themselves into such groups.
However, two modern tennis stars just made the headlines for refusing to react to the Djokovic controversy anymore. The two clay masters Rafael Nadal and Stefano Tsitsipis blatantly refused to talk about the Djokovic issue. Nick Kyrgios who has turned into Djokovic’s biggest advocate in the past few weeks, again came to support the world No.1. He criticized Tsitsipis and Nadal for not supporting a fellow player at a difficult stage in his life.
Nick Kyrgios continues to show support for Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic is experiencing one of the worst controversies of his career. He stands alone in his fight against the Australian Government, who seem to be fixated to deport Djokovic and make an example out of him in an election year.
Although the breaches committed by Djokovic cannot be ignored, he must be expecting some sort of support from his fellow players.
In post-match conferences, Stefano Tsitsipis and Rafael Nadal have denied talking about the Djokovic issue anymore. According to them, there is much more tennis left to be discussed and we should concentrate on that instead of concentrating on a single player.
However, Nick Kyrgios who has turned into Djokovic’s biggest advocate in the past few weeks, called Tsitsipis and Nadal out for not showing Djokovic any support.
Kyrgios in his podcast named No Boundaries Podcast, he said, “It’s just a s**t show, it’s something new every day, it’s not even about the vaccination anymore, I feel so sorry for him, winning his initial court case and his visa is canceled again, it’s an absolute s**t show, in my opinion.”
He then showed his disgust towards Tsitsipis and Nadal’s statements, “It actually p****s me off… that Tsitsipas, Nadal, and all… obviously, everyone’s got their opinion… it’s fine… but you are only treating him like Novak Djokovic, not like a human… imagine how’s he feeling…he probably wants a little bit of support from other players… bro he’s getting it from me… like what the f**k,” he added.
Kyrgios himself tested positive for Covid and has now recovered and is ready to face British qualifier Liam Broady in the first round. In the past few weeks he has been one of the few players who have shown full support towards Djokovic in his fight against the Australian Government.
