The official draw for the 2021 French Open is out and World No.1 seed Novak Djokovic will look to win it and inch closer to old foes Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in the all-time list. The Serb has already won the Australian Open this year and after a dip in form on Clay, he seems to be right on track. He has reached the semi-finals of the ongoing Belgrade Open and is the favorite to lift the title.
Like last year, Novak Djokovic is coming into the tournament as the top seed this time around but hasn’t had any luck with the draw. He has been handed an extremely tough draw right from the word go.
He faces Tennys Sandgren in the first round and would then face the winner of Lucas Pouille vs Pablo Cuevas. Both Pouille and Cuevas are clay courters and could give a hard time to Djokovic. He is next drawn against 29th seed Ugo Humbert in the third round.
In the Round of 16, he would have another tricky battle on his doors. He could face either of Alex De Minaur, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Lorenzo Musetti or David Goffin, all tremendous Clay court players.
A potential Djokovic-Nadal semifinal
In the quarter-final, Djokovic will have to play out of his skins to defeat either in form Matteo Berrettini or his arch nemesis Roger Federer. And then, in the semi-finals we could possibly witness the match of the tournament, Novak Djokovic vs Rafael Nadal.
Djokovic will have to bring out his ‘A’ game to conquer Nadal at Paris and head out into the final as the favorite. He could face either of Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem or Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Final.
