Djokovic had a rather difficult outing today at the Court No. 1 as he played against a spirited Denis Kudla who almost took the 1st set from the World No. 1. Djokovic however, was back at his usual best winning the points in the crucial moments to win the match 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(7).

While many thought it would be cakewalk for the Serbian against the World No. 114, it wasn’t that easy with both the players battling hard for every single point.

Kudla fought well and he played well from the beginning until the last game of the first set, I thought we were pretty even and then you know I just won 4-games in a row or something like that and started playing better. I mixed it up, I had to slow down the pace of the game, he was handling the ball well, he has a good balance, he has a good forehand and backhand as well and he’s a very good grass court player.

I am not too pleased with the way i performed. I felt like today was bit off with my service, usually serve works very well it is my weapon but it was not today. In some parts of the match it was good, but generally it was that great rhythm I had with my game. Honestly I think I can play better and hopefully will do in next round.” said Djokovic in his assessment of the match.

Novak has not tasted much success at the Olympics as he has only 1 medal at the mega-sports event when he won the Bronze Medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Apart from that he has no other medals and with him being the World No. 1 for a long time now and in great for, this could be the year, he gets his hands at an Olympic Gold.

I am very motivated to play Olympic games and fight for the medal. I have the highest aspirations and ambitions going into the Tokyo Olympics. Olympic games happen every 4 years, it is the biggest sport event in the history of sports. Obviously representing the country, for me it is the highest of honour and privilege and I always try to be there for Serbia and Serbian tennis.

Olympic games are next to Grand Slams this year are my highest goals and i have said that in the beginning of the season. Hopefully I will be able to have a great tournament here in Wimbledon, go all the way. That’s the wish, the desire, that’s what I am aiming at. I know my abilities to recover mentally and physically and to get ready for the next big tournament i have done it before hopefully I can do it again.” concluded Djokovic as he proceeded to answer in Serbian.
