The aftermath of both girls creating history at the US Open has also positively impacted the game, with several young boys and girls getting hooked onto the sport. We also saw how famous personalities, across streams showered praises on the two teenagers.

Already plenty has been said and written about the achievements of Raducanu and Fernandez. Recently, in a chat with the National News, World No. 16, Ons Jabeur too shared her candid views on the incredible journey of the Brit and the Canadian in New York.

“It was very surprising. I know Leylah more and I always said she’s an amazing player and I can see her winning Grand Slams, this is the first final she made and I’m sure she’s going to win one very soon,” Jabeur said.

As compared to Fernandez, the Tunisian player had very little idea about the talent and ability of Raducanu. “Emma, I don’t know her much. It’s a surprise, she was playing really good and I don’t think there is anyone who has played like that in the second grand slam of her life.”

The 27-year-old also explained that she has drawn inspiration from the 2021 US Open finalists, and expressed her delight on a potential, long rivalry on the WTA tour between the 18-year-old Raducanu and 19-year-old Leylah Fernandez.

“It’s unbelievable to see teens playing that way. They inspired me and I’m sure they inspired a lot of other athletes. Honestly it’s good to have them on tour, to have new players coming up and winning grand slams, it’s amazing to see that,” Jabeur added.
