“Not Buying It” Tennis Legend Slams IOC’s statement on having talked with Peng Shuai

Patrick McEnroe and Peng Shuai

Patrick McEnroe is the latest tennis legend to come ahead and criticise the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the Peng Shuai case. Peng has not been seen or heard publicly ever since she came forward and accused former Vice Premier of China Zhang Gaoli of having forced her into a sexual relationship and the disappearance of the tennis star has caused a great uproar.

The Chinese government and IOC have been under pressure for not having taken any measures to investigate the accusations against Zhang and given China’s censorship, there have been massive doubts over the safety of Peng. IOC president Thomas Bach shared pictures of him having a video call with Peng but many believe it to be doctored images.

The accusation of doctored images comes after WTA chief Steve Simon has failed to make any communication with the former doubles World No. 1 and the question continues to loom over why there has been no action taken against Zhang. In these circumstances, McEnroe came ahead and took to his Twitter handle to express his frustration over IOC.

Chinese officials say Peng Shuai case is hyped

With constant pressure from agencies and institutions across the globe, the Chinese government came ahead and said that the case is being hyped for no reason as they have already proved that Peng is fine after the tennis star was ‘seen’ at a local tournament in China and the IOC has also communicated with the player.

These attempts are however being cited as a cover-up in order to resolve the issue quickly as this has led to the unearthing of the scandals at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics which are scheduled to begin in February but the case of Peng has resulted in protests being called to cancel the Games in Beijing.
