British teen sensation Emma Raducanu scripted history at the 2021 US Open by becoming the first qualifier in tennis history to win a grand slam. The 18-year old beat fellow teenager Leylah Fernandez in straight sets 6-4,6-3 to win the title. Since her historic triumph, journalists, fans and almost everyone took to social media and lauded Emma.
But despite congratulating Emma, English broadcaster and journalist Piers Morgan is getting badly trolled once again. It all started a couple of months back at Wimbledon, where Emma reached the fourth round of the tournament after getting a wild card entry. It was also her first major and she was the last Brit standing in the tournament. But unfortunately, she had to retire in the Round of 16 match against Ajla Tomljanovic where she was 4-6,0-3 down.
It was reported that Raducanu had some pain in her stomach and had breathing issues which forced her to retire. But back then, Morgan called out Emma and said that she quit the match because she couldn’t handle the pressure and adviced her to toughen up.
He was badly trolled then too for his insensitive remarks towards an eighteen year old and so is the case after her US Open triumph.
Morgan calls Raducanu a ‘choker’
After Raducanu’s US Open triumph, Morgan took to twitter and wrote: “From Wimbledon choker to US Open champion in 3 months…. never seen a more brilliant illustration of mental strength & resilience than @EmmaRaducanu’s win. That’s what elite sport is all about – facing up to loss/adversity & going again with no whining & steely determination.”
Him addressing Raducanu as a choker after her win didn’t go well with a lot of people and he was brutally trolled.
