Tennis players imagined as trading cards, check out their attributes

Tennis players are one of the most popular athletes across the globe as the sport is one of the most followed games all over the world. While they do get global recognition through their achievements on the court and brand deals off the court, the sport so far has not seen trading cards made available for the players.

Trading cards are quite popular among the younger fans of various sports with the concept having got limelight from the popular cartoon Pokemon. With sports like cricket, football, basketball having trading cards, it was about time someone brought the concept for tennis players as well.

Legends like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams along with stars like Ashleigh Barty, Simona Halep, Coco Gauff were also seen on the cards where along with their basic attributes, speciality and weaknesses being mentioned.

Nadal’s card read his strength as ‘Legends say that clay runs through his veins’ while Federer had ‘History tells us that he inherited an aura and a grace that are out of this world’. Djokovic for his 9 Australian Open titles had ‘According to ancestral writings, he is the chosen one of the prophecy in Australia’ while Serena’s card read ‘According to mythological narratives, the word “perfection” was conceived for her’.

Monfils, Osaka, Barty and Tsonga also feature on the cards

Naomi Osaka was called the ‘Nao-Missile’ while French veteran Gael Monfils was called the ‘Fire-Ball’ for the respective attributes they bring on the court. Canadian youngster Felix-Auger Aliassime was called ‘Giga-Laser’ while Coco Gauff was named ‘Hurricane Coco’.

2-time Grand Slam champion Ash Barty‘s slices also found their way on her card as she was called ‘Maxi Slice’ while Greek youngster Stefanos Tsitsipas was called the ‘Tsitsi-Canon’ for his powerful shots. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was called the ‘Ultimate Strike’ while Romania’s pride Simona Halep was called the ‘Supersonic Rocket’.

While the idea is certainly fascinating, it will be great to see if the concept is actually brought to life and many more players get their speciality cards.
