Former World No.1 Karolina Pliskova has had a decent season so far. She had a slow start to the season but then did well on clay. She made it to the final at the Italian Open where she was thrashed by Iga Swiatek. She then also reached the final at Wimbledon where she lost to Ash Barty. The Czech then reached the final of Canadian Open and followed it up with a semifinal at Cincinnati. She also made it to the quarterfinal of the US Open before a Round of 32 exit at Indian Wells. In her first match at Guadalajara, she defeated Garbine Muguruza in a three set thriller 4-6,6-2,7-6(6).

Anett Kontaveit’s fairytale run just keeps getting better. After getting knocked out of the third round at Flushing Meadows, she won the Ostrava Open and also made it to the quarterfinal at Indian Wells. She then won the Kremlin Cup at Moscow and followed it up with another title victory at the Transylvania Open. This week in Guadalajara, she had a convincing win over second seed Barbora Krejcikova in her first match in straight sets 6-3,6-4.

The match is expected to be a close one as both players are coming off a win. Pliskova won a thrilling match against Muguruza while Kontaveit cruised past Krejcikova. Both players have adapted well to the conditions in high altitude and will want to virtually secure a semifinal berth with a win. Expect the match to go down the distance with Pliskova edging past the Estonian.

Prediction: Pliskova to win in three sets.
