Alexei Popyrin makes his main draw debut at the Queen’s Club this year as he was defeated in the qualifying round in the previous edition held in 2019. Playing at the 2019 Wimbledon, he reached the 2nd round after winning 3 of his qualifying round matches to enter the main draw of the Grand Slam.
He made his Grass debut for the season at the 2021 ATP Stuttgart Open where he had a straight-set defeat in the 1st round. The 21-year old also played at the 2021 French Open where he faced a similar losing to Rafael Nadal in straight sets in round 1 after a spirited performance against the defending champion.
Daniel Evans makes his 10th appearance at the Queen’s Club. The Brit is however yet to reach the quarter-finals of the competition. He’s currently on a poor streak of consecutive first round defeats in his last 3 appearances here.
This will be his ATP grass debut of the season as he comes from a 3rd round defeat at the 2021 Nottingham Challenger where he made his Grass debut for the season. He also featured at the French Open 2021 losing in the 1st round in 4-sets after winning the 1st set.

Alexei Popyrin vs Daniel Evans : Prediction
This is the 2nd Grass season for Popyrin who made his career Grass debut in the 2019 season. He is 6-4 on Grass so far in his career and 0-1 on the surface for the season. His overall record is better however, with 19 wins and 11 defeats so far this year.
Daniel Evans is better experienced player on the surface having made his Grass debut way back in 2007. He is 81-56 on Grass in his career, 2-1 for the season with all 3 of his matches coming at the 2021 Nottingham Challenger. He will enter the match with a 14-11 season record and will be the favourite to win this clash given his experience as he looks to end his 1st round defeat streak.
