Max Purcell vs Lorenzo Sonego: Preview
World No. 27 Lorenzo Sonego has been in tremendous touch lately. He strolled into the semifinals of Eastbourne International after thrashing Alexander Bublik in straight sets in the quarter-final clash. Bublik was clearly cornered in the first set but he tried making a comeback in the second.
Bublik scored 8 aces in comparison to Sonego’s 3. However, Sonego won 74% of the first serve points and eventually ended up winning the contest by 6-1, 7-5. Moreover, Sonego also defeated John Millman in the first-round clash. Millman was totally outplayed by the Italian.
The 26-year-old Italian dominated the proceedings and won the match-up in straight sets by 6-4, 6-2. Sonego won his first ATP title on the grass courts of Antalya in 2018 and is looking to go big in the ATP Eastbourne as well. On the other hand, Max Purcell has fought hard to reach this far in the tournament.
Max Purcell defeated seventh-seeded Kevin Anderson and third-seeded Ilya Ivashka in the qualifiers. Post that, he won a close shave against fellow countryman James Duckworth. Moreover, he also went past Andreas Seppi in the quarter-finals to book his place in the semis.
Max Purcell vs Lorenzo Sonego: Head to Head
This will be the first time when these two players will face each other. Hence, the head-to-head record stands at 0-0.
Max Purcell vs Lorenzo Sonego: Prediction
Max Purcell has been stretched to the third round in all the matches he has been a part of in the Eastbourne Open 2021. However, it also suggests that he has been very calm under pressure. Moreover, he has defeated some top-seeded players already in the tournament.
The odds are in the favor of Sonego who has dominated his opponents, but looking at Purcell’s performances, it would be fair to say that he will not go down without a fight.
Prediction: Lorenzo Sonego to win in three-sets.
