Roger Federer, 20 time Grandslam champion and arguably one of the greatest players of all time has been missed dearly at Lave Cup 2021. However, the Swiss maestro made a surprise appearance on the opening day of the three day event, and has been present in the stands, supporting Team Europe.

Roger Federer has played in all three editions of Laver Cup up till now, and one can safely say that he is the face of the Team Europe. Andy Roddick, former American tennis player and US Open champion had a chance to catch up with Roger Federer at Laver Cup 2021. The duo were formidable opponents back in the day, with their most notable match coming in the finals of Wimbledon 2009.

Andy Roddick uploaded a picture on his Twitter account, which depicts him watching the Laver Cup alongside Roger Federer. The caption read: “Always great catching up w @rogerfederer ! Enjoyed seeing @LaverCup in person for the first time. Til next time ,” said Roddick.

Team Europe have earned a sizeable lead after two days of high-intensity tennis. Team World trail by a score-line of 11-1 heading into the last day of action. This means that Team Europe needs just one victory to retain the Laver Cup. Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev will lead the charge for Team Europe on the last day of Laver Cup, whereas, John Isner and Diego Schwartzman will hope to earn unlikely victories against their higher ranked opponents.

As for Roger Federer, he underwent another knee surgery which has ruled him out of action for a few more months. The Swiss maestro was last seen in action during his quarterfinal loss to Hubert Hurkacz at Wimbledon 2021.
