Andrey Rublev vs Nikoloz Basilashvili: Preview

The World No. 7 Andrey Rublev will head into the Semi-Finals of ATP 500 at Halle to face the 29-year-old Nikoloz Basilashvili. Rublev defeated the German Philipp Kohlschreiber smoothly in straight sets after a first set tiebreak 7-6 6-2 in the Quarter-Finals. The second highest ranked Russian has looked solid at the German Grass tournament reaching the Semi-Finals without dropping a single set. Rublev faced a shocking defeat earlier at Roland Garros, getting knocked out in the first round by the Unseeded Jan-Lennard Struff.
Basilashvili entered Halle Open’s main draw through qualifiers, but he has looked impressive ever since. He emerged victorious against the French Giles Simon in a three-setter first round. The Georgian hasn’t looked back and downed Lloyd Harris swiftly to land in the Semis, set to be played on 19th June.

With the Georgian looking set on a strong run, it wouldn’t be a cakewalk for the fourth seed to go past him. But Rublev’s golden form in the last few months (barring the Roland Garros), makes him a heavy favourite to make the final.
