The Russian comes into this match after having beaten Lloyd Harris in three easy sets in the second round. He also beat Federico Delbonis in the opening round after having dropped the first set. The fifth seed also made the finals of ATP Halle, where he was downed by Ugo Humbert. Rublev who has lost in the second round in the previous two editions of Wimbledon’s is poised to make the second week for the first time in his career. Having made the quarterfinals of the other three Slams, the 23-year-old would now be keen to keep him momentum going at the All England Club as well. He has played plenty of tennis this season with a 37-10 win/loss record.

On the other hand, the Italian comes into this round after beating Laslo Djere in four sets. He also beat clay specialist Albert Ramos Vinolas in the opening round. Fognini hasn’t enjoyed a great season on tour with a win/loss record of 17/14 till now. Moreover, grass is the least favourite surface of the Italian. The 34-year-old has never made it past the third round at the All England Club and has lost four consecutive third round matches in the last four years at Wimbledon. Going ahead into the match against an attacking Rublev, Fognini will have his work cut out.

Rublev has been impeccable with his serve and forehand in the last two rounds. If he continues his merry ways, Fognini is likely to struggle on the grass. While the Russian will be looking to dictate play from the back court, the Italian can only rely on taking the ball early finishing points quickly. Currently, given the form and the faster surface, the fifth seed should comfortably prevail without much trouble.

Match Prediction: Andrey Rublev should win in three sets.
