Andrey Rublev will play for the 4th time at the Halle Open 2021 and has had a mixed set of results in his 3 appearances so far. He has two defeats in the 1st qualifying round in 2016 and 2019. His best run so far at the tournament came at the 2017 Halle Open where he made it till the quarter-finals.

He comes from a shocking first round defeat at the French Open 2021 losing in 5-sets. Rublev decided not to feature at the 2021 Stuttgart Open which started the Grass season for 2021 and will make his Grass debut for the season at Halle.

Karen Khachanov will also be making his 4th appearance at the tournament this year. The 25-year old has had good results in Halle reaching the semi-finals in 2017 and made consecutive quarter-final appearances in 2018 and 2019.

Karen also had a 5-setter defeat at the French Open 2021 although he went out in the 2nd round after winning his first round match in straight-sets.

This will be the 5th meeting between the Russians and 2nd at the Halle Open, previously meeting in the 2017 quarter-finals where Khachanov emerged victorious. Karen Khachanov has been the successful one leading the head-to-head tie 3-1.

Rublev has not achieved much success on Grass in his 4 Grass seasons he has played so far. He will come into the tournament with a 10-8 record on Grass for the career. He is 29-9 for the season and will be looking to overcome his shocking defeat at the Roland Garros to get back in form before the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.

Karen Khachanov is comparatively a better player on Grass having a 16-9 career record on Grass. He is however 15-12 for the season on all surfaces and will be looking to extend his lead on Rublev in their head-to-head.
