Casper Ruud vs Marcos Giron: Preview

Casper Ruud

Ruud opened his Paris campaign with a powerful 6-4, 6-0 win over Alexander Bublik. The 22 year-old Norwegian has been playing some great tennis in the last few months, being able to transition his game from just clay courts to be able to play on hard as well. He’s looking in good shape to be able to qualify for the year end championships, which will likely be on his mind as he enters this clash.

Ruud has advanced to the quarterfinals or better at seven of his last nine events and would be hoping to advance with the same momentum in the upcoming battle against Marcos Giron as well at the 49th Paris Masters 2021.

This is the second year in a row that America’s Marcos Giron has come through qualifying to reach the third round in Bercy. Over the weekend, he saved six match points and came back from 5-0 down in the third set against Gilles Simon.

Giron began his Bercy campaign with a formidable win over Vienna finalist, Frances Tiafoe before he shocked Argentine, Diego Schwartzman in two tiebreakers to set up an even tougher meeting with Casper Ruud.

Casper Ruud
Casper Ruud

The Norwegian has a stellar 15-5 win-loss record at Masters 1000 occasions this season, however the 22 year-old will have to be cautious of the in-form Marcos Giron.

The American has performed quite a lot of matches in Paris, having come via the qualification rounds. In opposition to Ruud, he will likely be trying to make his first quarterfinal at this degree. Ruud, on the other hand has the additional motivation of securing his place at the ATP Finals in Turin therefore he’ll be on his A-game.

Giron has a pretty well-rounded game, with solid groundstrokes and the ability to pull off some magic on occasion. Ruud however can play that game on a whole other level. He’s a bigger guy, allowing him to serve much bigger and hit bigger off the ground as well. Ruud will be expected to continue to show his top level as he attempts to book his place in the final eight here at the 2021 Paris Masters.

Prediction: Casper Ruud should win in three sets.
