‘Siuuuu!’ Daniil Medvedev signs off second round victory at Australian Open 2022 with a hilarious gesture; claims Nick Kyrgios could beat any top-10 ranked player

Daniil Medvedev, runner-up at Australian Open last year, stormed into the third round with a four set win over Nick Kyrgios. The Russian won the first two sets, but dropped the third set. However, the top seed remaining in the draw came back to win the fourth set and claim the match.

Throughout the tournament so far, Australian fans have come with a strange kind of celebration. The fans have been shouting ‘Siuu,’ from the stands which has irritated several tennis players including Andy Murray and Daniil Medvedev.

The iconic celebration has been inspired by one of the world’s greatest ever footballers, Cristiano Ronaldo. The atmosphere during the match between the Nick Kyrgios and Daniil Medvedev was just brilliant, as fans kept shouting Siuu from the stands.

After wrapping up the match in four sets, Medvedev signed off with a funny gesture. The Russian signed off by writing ‘Siuu’ in the camera lens before walking off the court.

The entire crowd at Rod Laver Arena was behind their local boy, Nick Kyrgios who put on splendid display. The Australian played trick shots, and kept the fans engaged throughout the game. Daniil Medvedev was happy to get a win over a player like Kyrgios’ caliber, and stated that it was difficult to keep his focus amidst the atmosphere in the stadium.

On the court he’s an entertainer. It doesn’t mean he’s bad. But, yeah, it’s a big show, so I tried really to stay focused on myself during the match. He was even saying, like, ‘Good shot, Good serve.’ I was like, ‘Doesn’t matter. I have to do the next one. I don’t care about the last one,said Medvedev in the post match conference.

Daniil Medvedev also claimed that on his day, Nick Kyrgios could beat any top 10 ranked player in the world. Next up, Medvedev faces the Dutchman, Botic van de Zandschulp in the third round on Saturday. Medvedev has a great chance of winning his second successive major title, given that the favorite, Novak Djokovic is already out of the draw even before the tournament began.
