Stefanos Tsitsipas continues his dream run on Clay this season as he brushes past Spaniard Pedro Martinez in straight-sets winning 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 wrapping up the match in 2hours and 27 minutes.
The Greek star dominated the first set through his service hitting 3 aces in the set with one of his service clocking 201 km/hr. He won 15/21 points on the 1st serve and 5/9 on the 2nd serve, two parameters on which Martinez found himself struggling. Stefanos won 36 points to Pedro’s 27 in the set to win it in 46 minutes.
Martinez improved a little in the second set but could not do much damage to Tsitsipas who continued dominating through his service, launching rockets through his service with his fastest reaching 203 km/hr and also hit 2 aces in the set. While Martinez improved from 27 to 31 points in the set, Stefanos was as dominating as before winning 38 points to wrap up the set in 53 minutes.
Stefanos Tsitsipas to play John Isner in the 3rd round
Stefanos Tsitsipas came in commanding position in the 3rd set leading 5-2 but Pedro Martinez came back stronger and broke his service to delay his eventual victory. Stefanos got his revenge in the very next game breaking Pedro to win the game, set and match in 48 minutes as he registers his 18th win of the season on Clay.
The win sets him up with American ace machine John Isner who hit 23 aces in his 2nd round victory 7-6(6), 6-1, 7-6(5) in his 20th win at the Roland Garros.
Speaking in the post-match on-court interview, Stefanos smiled at the question of his 5-setter encounter with Stan Wawrinka back in the 4th round of 2019 French Open.
“Great memories against Wawrinka? I do remember it I cannot forget about it. I really like playing in Paris, fans have embraced him made me one of them. My tennis is there, my performance is there and I am able to deliver. It’s not just good tennis but really great atmosphere to play in,” said Stefanos.
“I feel I had some good results. I don’t see them as super-excellent outstanding. It is great to be on the tour and great to take lead from the beginning of the year but there will be plenty of challenges.” concluded Stefanos after impressing the fans with some French.
