Although in the women’s game anybody can win the Grand Slam, even out of obscurity, there are plenty of former champions in the draw too. However, we quickly glance through some few names, who can win their maiden Slam at the All England Club in 2021.

Coco Gauff

The young American shot to fame after she became the youngest player to reach the main draw at Wimbledon by qualifying in the Open Era at the age of 15 years and 3 months. Later, she also beat Venus Williams in the early round of Wimbledon in 2019. The 17-year-old girl has already shown her ability as an all-court player and will be one of the dark horses at Wimbledon this year. In her only appearance in 2019, she reached the fourth round at the All England Club as many wondered if she would go onto to hold the coveted trophy once. Given her recent run and confidence, all eyes would be on Gauff.

Karolina Pliskova

Although Pliskova has never won a Slam till now, she has the experience of making the final stages of a Grand Slam. The lanky girl loves playing on the grass and hard court, which aids her big serve and booming forehand. Despite not being able to cross the fourth round in all these years at Wimbledon, it will be interesting to see how she keeps the pressure off herself in this edition. If she can get past the tricky early rounds, she can be a force to reckon with.

Keys is a former Wimbledon quarterfinalist and has shown in the past that she can play and succeed on grass. The American has also won two titles on grass after winning Eastbourne in 2014 and Birmingham in 2016. She also has the ability to blank out opponents with her powerful game, which can be an asset at Wimbledon. If she can move better and get into better hitting positions, she can be a big threat at the grass courts of the All England Club.

Maria Sakkari

Sakkari has been one of the most consistent players on the WTA circuit lately. After making the semifinals of the 2021 French Open, the Greek player will be confident of putting up another good performance on the lawns of the All England Club. Although she hasn’t played any warm-up tournament in the lead up to Wimbledon, her recent run and fitness should see her through the initial tests. If she can find her feet on grass, who knows what she can do at this year’s Wimbledon.

Elina Svitolina

Svitolina too has been one of the most consistent players on the WTA tour. She is also a former Wimbledon semifinalist. Svitolina doesn’t have any real weapons in her game to attack the opponents, but her ability to remain solid from the baseline and wear down opponents will always keep her in the game. If she can avoid the early round exits, due to the freshness of the grass, then she can be a dogged player in the draw.
