Tennis tour suspension period to be extended: Reports

94

The coronavirus pandemic has overseen a chaos in all the events globally. The prestigious quadrennial event, the Olympics, too has been suspended. However, originally the tennis tour was postponed until April 27 while revocation of Wimbledon, the postponement extended until July 13, 2020. Now it seems impracticable to hold events even by that time since the situation has yet to refine.

The ATP and WTA are on route to expand the postponement until August 3, 2020. By doing that, the women’s events in Bucharest, Lausanne, Palermo, Jurmala and Karlsruhe and the men’s tournament in Hamburg, Newport, Bastad, Los Cabos, Gstaad, Umag, Atlanta and Kitzbuhel will all be cancelled, as per the Spanish publication MARCA.

Initial, Tennis Canada suspended Rogers Cup 2020 which will be held in Montreal and Toronto, in the year 2021.

World Number two, Rafael Nadal is doubting about tennis regaining it’s normality any time soon.

12- time Ronald Garros champion, Rafael Nadal said, “I am very pessimistic about the circuit returning to a normal activity due to the fact of all the travels.”

Even three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray is doubting about the continuation of tennis.

As much as we all miss our sport, the lives of our sports-stars are also valuable. As now the situation remains horrible and we all hope that the COVID-19 pandemic recedes soon and we can back to our normal daily routines.
