Bianca Andreescu’s finest performance of her career came in 2019 when she won her maiden Grand Slam championship at the US Open. She reached the final without facing a top-ten opponent, with her greatest wins coming in the third round against Caroline Wozniacki and the semifinals against world number 12 Belinda Bencic.
Serena Williams was her last opponent once again. Andreescu won the championship in straight sets over Williams. She became the first Canadian tennis player to win a Grand Slam singles championship, as well as the first teenager to do it since Maria Sharapova won the 2006 US Open.

After missing the whole previous season due to injuries, Bianca Andreescu will play in the US Open for the first time since winning the title in 2019. After falling in the second round of the Australian Open this year, Andreescu advanced to the last four of the Philip Island Trophy.
She made a big step forward in Miami, where she lost in the final against Ashleigh Barty, the world number one. The rest of the season, though, has been a challenge for the 21-year-old; she has failed to get past the first round in two of her last three competitions.
Andreescu will face Viktorija Golubic in her first round at US Open 2021. Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland has had a successful year. After winning an ITF event in France and reaching the finals in Lyon and Monterrey, Golubic won the WTA 125K event in Saint-Malo. She then became the first woman to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals. The world number 45 has never won a match in the main draw at the US Open, and she’ll be trying to change that when she faces Andreescu in the first round.
