Marketa Vondrousova seems to have overcome the fitness concerns that saw her give a walkover in the semi-finals of the 2021 Chicago Classic and kept her from performing to her best at the recently concluded 2021 Indian Wells. Marketa defeated Elena Rybakina 6-4, 6-4 in the first round to advance ahead in her debut at the Kremlin Cup.

Lesia Tsurenko reaches the second round after battling two qualifying rounds and then defeating Qinwen Zheng 6-4, 6-3 in the first round to reach the Round of 16. A semi-finalist at the 2015 Kremlin Cup and a quarter-finalist at the 2017 Kremlin Cup, Lesia is making her 7th main-draw appearance in the competition. She comes to Moscow from a 2nd round defeat at the 2021 Astana Open.

Marketa will take the court with a career Hardcourt record of 66-37 and is 21-10 on the surface this season while being 30-18 for the season across all surfaces. Lesia will come into the clash with a career Hardcourt record of 166-114 and a 9-9 season Hardcourt record with a 22-13 season record across all surfaces.

Looking at these numbers, their past performances and recent results, Marketa Vondrousova seems to be the one heading into the next round but Lesia can delay the proceedings given her good recent wins but it seems unlikely she will be the last one standing.

Prediction: Marketa Vondrousova to win in 3-sets.
