One of the creators and the biggest name behind the Laver Cup, 20-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer made a surprise visit at the TD Garden in Boston for the 2021 Laver Cup. The Swiss Maestro had to end his season early due to a knee injury at the 2021 Wimbledon and despite being a player for Team Europe in the past 3 editions, he had to miss out on this year’s competition.

Federer in his recent media interactions had spoken about watching this year’s Laver Cup from his home in Switzerland as he continues his rehab from his knee surgery. His visit to Boston was quite a surprise for the fans in the arena who were not aware of Roger’s presence till he was on the big screen.

It happened during the 5th game of the 1st set of Casper Ruud vs Reilly Opelka match when the cameraman spotted Roger in the stands and he was on the big screen waving to the fans. Roger immediately received a standing ovation from the crowd and he returned the favour by standing up and thanking everyone for their affection and appreciation.

As Team Europe prepared to win their 4th consecutive Laver Cup title, Federer was confirmed out and along with him were his other fellow members of Big-3 members, Rafael Nadal, due to his season ending foot injury, and Novak Djokovic who declined to participate this year after having played in the 2018 Laver Cup.

Federer took to his Instagram handle where he posted a short clip captioning it, “You know I wouldn’t miss this” and tagged the official Instagram handle of the Laver Cup. The video started with a group chat between the current Team Europe speaking about Federer not being the part of the team this year and went on to add him in the group chat.

As Federer sent his image in the group chat, the video then became a highlight reel of some glorious moments of Federer’s time in the previous 3 editions of the Laver Cup including the winning moments from previous years.

Team Europe leads Team World 3-1 at the end of Day-1.
