Victoria Azarenka has had a tough time with injuries lately. The former World No.1 has had a mixed 2021, with the early part of her year being disappointing but then having a somewhat resurgent second half of the year.

The Belarusian disappointed her fans in this year’s Australian Open, crashing out in the first round after suffering a defeat to unseeded Jessica Pegula. After missing a host of tournaments post the disappointment through injury, Azarenka had a late-season resurgence as she reached the quarter-finals and the semi-finals of the 2021 National Bank Open in Canada and the 2021 BNP Paribas Open respectively.

As the new season is fast approaching, preparations for the players are going in full swing, with players eager to get every bit of match practice under their belts to be in the perfect shape for the start of the new season.

For former World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka, the extra practice almost proved to be a calamity as she found herself locked inside her local tennis court after closing time.

The 32-year old’s latest pre-season practice featured the two-time Grand Slam winner having to hop a fence after the tennis club she was practicing in, locked the gates on the Belarusian and her team.

While the Belarusian eventually made her way out with the help of two members of her team and a handy towel, her fence-jumping technique left many fans astonished. “There is an interesting amount of people who are surprised that I can’t jump the fence ‘properly’,” Azarenka wrote following the widespread surprise of her fans.

Currently ranked World No. 27, Azarenka will be looking to get plenty more practice under her belts before heading to Australia, where she won both of her Grand Slam titles in 2012 and 2013. The former World No.1 would hope for an injury-free season as she would look to roll back the years.
