Rivalry in sports always adds value to the overall experience and when it comes to tennis, not many rivalries have a history as entertaining as Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova. Undoubtedly, over the years, both Serena and Sharapova played some high-quality tennis.

There was a time when a contest between Serena and Sharapova used to be the marquee event in every tournament. Serena Williams has achieved a lot in her illustrious career and her coach Patrick Mouratoglou has played a huge role in that. The Greek-French coach has been with Williams since 2012 and has guided her from 10 to 23 Grand Slam titles. Moreover, there were reports that Patrick and Serena dated for a short while, something which they didn’t accept publicly.
Even after their alleged affair came to an end, the two stars have been together and have ruled the world of tennis. However, back in 2013 when Wimbledon action was on, Maria Sharapova made some nasty comments about Serena and Patrick’s love affair.
Sharapova had told reporters, “if she wants to talk about something personal, maybe she should talk about her relationship and her boyfriend that was married and is getting a divorce and has kids.” This statement made headlines as nobody expected Sharapova to launch a personal attack on Serena.
Sharapova gave this statement after a journalist claimed to have overheard Serena making personal comments about Sharapova while talking to her sister Venus. Everyone appreciates a little banter among the top stars, however, in this case, things went a little overboard and Sharapova faced a lot of flak for her comments.
