39-year-old Roger Federer is one of the best tennis players that the world has ever witnessed. It will not be wrong to say that he and Serena Williams have taken the sport to a very high level. However, Federer would not have got so much fame and honor if his parents hadn’t backed him.
Roger Federer’s family consists of his parents, Robert Federer and Lynette Federer, his wife, Mirka Federer, his elder sister, Diana Federer, and his four children.
Federer’s father, Robert Federer, is a Swiss citizen and hails from Berneck, Switzerland. However, his mother, Lynette Federer, is an Afrikaner and hails from Kempton Park, South Africa. As a result, the Swiss Maestro has both the Swiss as well as South African citizenship.
Tennis was always a common interest in the family and Federer’s parents introduced him to many sports including football and squash. He received their unconditional support when he decided to opt for tennis as a professional career.
How did Roger Federer’s parents meet?
Federer’s father was an executive at a pharmaceutical firm. He met his wife, Lynette, on a business trip as she was also working in the same firm. Later, they got married and after some time, Lynette, gave birth to Diana and Roger.
Both Diana and Roger grew up in the town of Munchenstein, which is on the outskirts of Basel. As of now, Diana works as a nurse and interestingly, is also a parent of a set of twins- just like Roger.
As a tribute to his other home, Roger recently played a charity match in South Africa in 2020. In it, he also invited Microsoft owner, Bill Gates, and his dear friend, Rafael Nadal, who both turned up to support him. Luckily, his parents were also there and Federer managed to raise a large sum of money to help the children of Africa.
Day in and out, Federer’s parents have always supported their son. Will they be able to see him lift yet another Grand Slam title before he bids good bye to sport?
