Having said that, her success in tennis involves a huge team behind it and the leader of that team is her coach, Wim Fissette. After her split with former coach Sascha Bajin in 2019, Osaka started her partnership with Fissette, an already established coach on the WTA tour. And her decision would prove out to be one of the best, as the duo have won 2 grand slams till date.

The Belgian is one of the most successful coaches on the WTA tour in the past decade.  has also worked with Kim Clijsters, Sabine Lisicki, Simona Halep, Victoria Azarenka (two different stints), Petra Kvitova, Sara Errani, Johanna Konta, and Angelique Kerber. And now, he is currently coaching Naomi Osaka.

As a coach, he has won six Grand Slam titles – three with Clijsters, one with Kerber (Wimbledon 2018), and two with Osaka (also the 2020 US Open). He also took both Lisicki (Wimbledon 2013) and Halep (French Open 2014) to Grand Slam finals. His players have reached at least the quarter-finals at slams on 10 other occasions—including the semis three times.

Fissette has rarely worked with any player for more than two years but his partnership with Osaka seems to be boding well. Clay is the surface that Osaka needs the most improvement in and hence the duo are currently training on Clay for the upcoming French Open.
