The future of Italian tennis is in safe hands. The country which is famous for it’s beautiful cities, and delicious food has been a breeding ground for several talented tennis players. The likes of Jannik Sinner, Matteo Berrettini and Lorenzo Sonego have been making their way to the top of tennis. Lorenzo Musetti, is another highly rated teenager from Italy.

The 19-year old announced himself on the big stage last year after he reached the third round of the Italian Open. Musetti’s defeated the likes of Kei Nishikori and Stan Wawrinka in consecutive matches, and is regarded as one of the most promising players on tour.

Lorenzo Musetti failed to make the cut for the French Open last year, and bowed out in the first qualifying round of Australian Open 2021. In 2021, the 19-year old has reached the semifinals of Mexican Open and Lyon Open, and has achieved some good results on tour.

Due to his improved ranking, the Italian was awarded a direct entry into the main draw of the French Open 2021, which was his Grandslam debut. He has grabbed this opportunity with both hands, and has reached the fourth round, defeating the likes of David Goffin, Marco Cecchinato.

Lorenzo Musetti is currently ranked 74th in the ATP Rankings, and it is only a matter of time before he breaks into the top 20 rankings. The Italian broke into the top 100 of the world, after reaching the semifinals in Acapulco.

On the junior level, Lorenzo Musetti lifted the Australian Open Boy’s singles title in 2019. He received a wildcard to compete at the Dubai Tennis Championships in 2020, which was his first ATP Main draw debut. Unfortunately, he lost to Andrey Rublev in the first round itself.

2021 has been a fruitful year for Musetti so far. He has defeated the likes of Diego Schwartzman, Grigor Dimitrov and David Goffin in the span of just under three months. He became only the sixth player to reach the fourth round of a major on his Grandslam debut, after he made the last 16 at French Open 2021.
