Alexander Zverev vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina : Preview
Alexander Zverev storms into his 3rd quarter final at the Roland Garros after his 3rd successive straight-set victory at the French Open 2021. The German defeated Kei Nishikori 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 in a rather easy victory for him after Nishikori’s impressive run in his previous matches, making tennis fans expecting this to not be a straight set affair.
Zverev had reached the quarters at the Roland Garros in 2018 and 2019 as well, but was defeated by Dominic Thiem and Novak Djokovic respectively. This time however he stands a better chance to go ahead of the last-8 into the semis against a much lower ranked opponent.
Alejandro Fokina will make his quarter-final debut at the Roland Garros and will also be playing his first Grand Slam quarter-final of his career. He comes into the quarters from a victory over Argentine Federico Delbonis defeating him 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
The Spaniard won a straight-set match in the 1st round and followed it up with 2 impressive 5-set wins in the 2nd and 3rd round which included a his 3rd round victory over the in-form Norwegian Casper Ruud, who many dubbed to be a dark horse this year for the title.
