Rafael Nadal minced no words when asked how it felt competing without any crowds in the stands. He said it was a completely different feeling. But in the same vein Nadal said that, “ It’s not a moment to forget but a moment to be responsible.” He urged the Australian people to be careful and lauded the efforts of the Australian authorities.

Nadal wants to “ keep improving”

Nadal’s preparation coming into the tournament had been hampered by a back injury, and he played the first couple of matches with a stiff back. But now it seems like  he is feeling much better, and can do his normal service motion again. Nadal complemented his opponent, of the third round Cameron Norrie, and said that he played a good match. He also spoke about how good his 4th round opponent Fabio Fognini was, and reminded everyone” that he( Fognini) has beaten me (him) twice before.” But most importantly, Nadal stressed on the need to “ keep improving” his game. He said now that he is in the second round of the tournament there was no place for loose tennis anymore. A fully fit Nadal in the 4th round is one adversary no one wants to face.
