Over the decade Overeem has a UFC record of 12-8. Overeem is now 40 and will forever be remembered for his expertise in kickboxing and the guillotine. ‘The Reem’ parted ways with the UFC on good terms and released a statement on Instagram earlier today.

The legend thanked UFC President Dana White and former CEO Lorenzo Fertitta. “The final run has come to an end, but what a run it has been. Looking back at my 10 years in the UFC, this has been the experience of a lifetime. Huge thank you to the entire @ufc staff, the fans and all the fighters I came across.

Couldn’t have wished for any other better career path. A special thank you to @danawhite and Lorenzo Fertitta for making everything possible. Fighting for all of you has been such an honor,” Overeem posted on Thursday. Alistair was removed from the promotion alongside former UFC heavyweight champion, Junior dos Santos.

Some of the highlights in Overeem’s career

Alistair Overeem

Alistair Overeem made his debut in 2011 against WWE superstar Brock Lesnar. The Reem defeated Brock in the first round via TKO and made sure the world took note of the Dutchman. And rightly so, the world did. He has victories over a handful of UFC aces and dominant fighters.

Alistair has wins over Fabricio Werdum, dos Santos, and Aleksei Oleinik. The fighter though has lost to some of the heavyweight legends like Francis Ngannou, Stipe Miocic, and Alexander Volkov.

Overeem has a record of 47-19 in his professional MMA career. He is one of the most decorated fighters in heavyweight history and sure will be missed by a lot of fans.
